8th Peptoid Summit Info

Technical Program

We have over 100 attendees registered, and four exciting sessions lined up that will cover the chemistry, biology, computational and nanoscience aspects of peptoids. There is a nice mix of student, post-doc and PI presentations, as well as a poster session complete with refreshments.  A nice catered dinner will also be provided (included in your registration) on Thursday evening, and tours will also be provided.  We encourage you to stay Friday afternoon for informal “interaction time” to hang out and discuss science with each other, and to spend some time checking out our corporate sponsor exhibits.   Discussions can continue at a Summit BBQ which will take place in the late afternoon on the second day.

Thursday and Friday, August 9-10, 2012

Location:  Building 66 Auditorium, next door to the Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Hotel & Accommodations

We recommend our out of town visitors to stay at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza located in downtown Berkeley.  We have negotiated a discounted rate for our Peptoid Summit guests of $119 per night which can be accessed online here.  You can also reach them toll-free at (866) 466-9199.  Be sure to mention the “Peptoids 2012” group to get the special rate.

The Berkeley Lab Guest House has unfortunately sold out of rooms.

Attendee & Presenter Info

Registration fee:  $120 ($75 for students)

Secure registration website: Online registration has closed
however a limited number of walk-in registration slots are available.  Please contact us if you are interested in one.

We are able to offset a portion of travel expenses for presenters.  We hope this will encourage your participation!  The following amounts will be reimbursed toward travel expenses:

  1. International speakers - $750

  2. Domestic speakers - $500

Poster presenters:  We can accommodate posters up to 4’ x 3’ in size.  We cannot print your poster here for you, but you are welcome to send it to us ahead of time.  Please contact Rita Garcia for details.

Conference Location

The technical sessions will be held in the Building 66 Auditorium, which is right next door to the Molecular Foundry.  The poster session and meals will be held in the Foundry in the 3rd floor commons area.  These buildings are located at the southern edge of the spacious LBNL campus in the hills above Berkeley.  Lots of peaceful trees, rolling hills and spectacular bay views are guaranteed!  Directions to the LBNL campus itself can be found here.  There is a security gate at the lab perimeter, but when you register for the conference, you will be automatically added to the guest list and we can arrange for parking permit.  The securty gate can provide you with exact parking instructuions.  The lab is also accessible via the LBNL shuttle bus service that goes between the Foundry and downtown Berkeley.

Peptoid Nomenclature Standards Breakout Session

Chair: Vincent Voelz

Vice-chair: Cleo Salisbury

Adopting a standard set of terminology for peptoid chemical structure is important for the community.   Especially important for computational modeling is nomenclature for peptoid residue backbone conformations, atom names, bonds  and angles.   We will discuss what conventions are currently being used, and what needs to be improved.  A specific goal would be to agree on what conventions are preferred for "PDB"-style naming in structure/topology files common to many modeling platforms.    Standard terminology for peptoid residues will also be discussed.  There are several competing terminologies in the literature -- can we agree on a standard syntax and list of abbreviations?  Should we create an open source monomer database?

Come join the discussion and voice your concerns, and help brainstorm about potential solutions!  See you there!

Post-Summit BBQ on Friday afternoon

Foundry students are organizing a BBQ at a local park in Berkeley on Friday late afternoon.  This will be an excellent way to continue scientific exchange in a more relaxed setting!   Once registered, you will get details about this event.

Many thanks to our corporate sponsors!
